GaREAT Volleyball Academy
The GaREAT Volleyball Academy is currently going into its eighth year of existence. The club was formally known as Club Ashtabula Volleyball, which started with two teams. In 2009, the club reached 21 teams, with over 200 players. GaREAT Sports Complex will allow the club to grow even larger with potential for more teams and in-house academy programs. This will allow players of all ages, skill levels and experience to be part of the GaREAT Volleyball Academy.
The club sanctioned through the Ohio Valley Region of USA Volleyball.
We offer every age group from 10s-18s. Several years we have offered national level teams. Last season the 13 National team participated in the JVDA National Tournament in Lexington, Kentucky. Several of our players have gone on to continue their academic and athletic careers at the collegiate level.
Mission Statement
It is our mission to provide an environment that supports the personal growth of every volleyball player to reach their maximum playing potential through coaching, clinics, and community support. GVA will help its players better understand the strategies/knowledge of the game through opportunities to observe higher level of play which will inspire personal growth.
Training Philosophy
It is GVA's (GaREAT Volleyball Academy) philosophy that practices are a time to improve skill and knowledge of the game. There are two points of emphasis in our training philosophy.
Technical Emphasis
Technical training is the focus of individual development of fundamental skills. Without proper technical skill, teams will not be able to properly implement team strategies.
- Forearm pass
- Set
- Serve
- Serve receive
- Spike/attack
Tactical Emphasis
Tactical training is the focus of team play, offensive and defensive strategies. Combining high-level individual skill with perfected team strategies, is the key to successful match play.
